Creating the Best Year Yet – 2015 Goals

I can’t believe it’s 2015. But here we are.

During the month of December, I spent a lot of time reflecting on my goals for 2014 and considering why I fell short on many of them. With these things in mind, I tried to be much more realistic of life, time restraints, and projects already planned for this coming year when making my goals for 2015. I’m really excited about the year ahead.

2015 GOALS

Let’s kick off the list with the fun stuff!

1) Travel – In October I converted from contractor to employee so I went from unlimited unpaid vacation to three weeks of paid vacation. So, that just means I have to make sure I carefully plan out my limited vacation time. As always, I want to make time to focus on family, and cram as much fun and life and amazing experiences as I can into this year!

  • Take a winter family trip, preferably somewhere warm
  • Go to Seattle to visit family & friends
  • Spend Christmas or Thanksgiving with my brother & SIL
  • Take a solo trip

2) Update We Heart Mom – I’m planning on a major makeover of the website. I also have a lot of other plans for the website but with taking a new job I am going to keep this goal simple for now.

3) House Hunting – It’s no secret that I’ve been a bit antsy about living in Chicago. There is so much I love about living here, but so much I really dislike too. Is it time to go someplace new? On the flip side, if we stay, our current house is great but the layout isn’t ideal for our family, I don’t necessarily need more square footage, just a layout that makes sense for us.

Although I’m super excited to start this house hunting adventure, there’s a very good chance at the end of it I won’t buy a new house. It might turn out that it doesn’t in fact make financial sense to buy something this year. I guess we’ll have to see.

4) Get Healthy – I know I said this last year, but it is still a goal. I am following a plan set by my doctor.  And like last year, I plan to participate in at least one race for charity.

5) Decide to Grow Our Family… or Not – I turned 41 in November and my time for having a decision to make at all is slipping away.  My whole life I never imagined having just one kid, but then again I never imagined being a single mom either. But the decision to have another child, to provide my daughter with a sibling, feels impossibly huge to me.  I don’t want to have huge regrets about this one.

But the reality is that if it is only just my daughter and me, I need to decide to be okay with that too. I can picture our life just the two of us, and it isn’t a bad life.  I would be ecstatic to have more, but… I could be pretty content with things remaining exactly the way they are as well.

6) Enjoy the ride  The way I see it, goals are a road map to where you what to be at the end of the year. And just like with any road trip, sometimes there are detours along the way, and the journey doesn’t always look like we think it should. Instead of stressing over the detours and unaccomplished goals, we need to just enjoy the ride, especially if we end up at a place in our life that we feel good about. Life is already good, so let’s just enjoy it.

So, there you have it, folks. I’m excited to see what 2015 holds!

Happy New Year!
