New Year’s Resolutions – February Update

It’s hard to stick to your New Year’s resolutions. Most people do this for a few days or weeks, and then miss a day, and give up. Typically, I don’t make New Year’s resolutions, because I never keep them. In fact, I didn’t bother making any resolutions in 2013. But this year is different. Perhaps it’s the fact that I turned 40 a few months ago, I’ve been a bit reflective, after all, that’s a lot of life to look back on.

I don’t necessarily think that new year resolutions don’t work, I think it just depends on the way that you approach the situation. If you want a resolution to work, it requires a lot of thought and planning. You have to work hard and use a lot of willpower to make it happen, you really have to want to change. So, in light of that, I’ve decided to publish my 2014 resolutions  for all to see, in the hopes that I will be compelled to actually try to complete them!

Personally, I like “goals” versus “resolutions” because I feel like resolutions mean that you’re giving something up, or starting something right on January 1st. These are things that I want to work on throughout the year, so I’m calling them goals.

Lose Weight

Cliche, huh? I know, but it is my number one goal. I  started things off in December by seeing a new doctor and getting some blood work done. Yes, I want to lose weight, but really I just want to feel better. I’ve been using the excuse that I don’t have the time to workout to not stick with a diet. So, I’m tackling diet first, then add the working out part later.  I also signed up with a grocery delivery service so I’m not tempted by going to the grocery store and buying things that I shouldn’t (I’ll have more on that tomorrow). My goal is to end the year with completing my first ever 5K.

So, how am I doing? So far, my grand total loss is -23 pounds!! I’ve got a lot more to lose but I’m very proud of my progress. PASS

New Website

In 2014 I wanted to start a new website. I’ve been writing two blogs for nearly five years now, but I’ve always just written for myself. I really enjoy writing and having a creative outlet. Well, I did one better; I assumed responsibility of We Heart MomPASS

I’m also working on getting another website off the ground. I bought the domain name and I’m in the process of designing the website. It’ll be a challenge to build it up from nothing, but it’s really exciting. Stay tuned!

Travel

I’ve always thought of traveling as a way to shake things up, get out of the day-to-day routine, and making time to focus on family. I want to cram as much fun and life and amazing experiences as I can into this year!

  • Take a winter family trip somewhere warm for Spring Break — plane tickets are purchased & lodging reserved! PASS
  • Take a summer family road trip
  • Take a mommy-only trip, even if it is just for a weekend. Last year on my birthday was the first time I had ever been away from my daughter for more than a day. I need to make this mandatory every year. I need to recharge so I can be the best mommy I can be.
  • I want to go to a blogging conference (see website goals above)…maybe I will combine this with my mommy-only trip?
  • Attend a wedding in California

Practice Positivity

I read somewhere that you can look for reasons to be happy or you can look for reasons to be sad – you’ll always be able to find plenty of each. This is my new mantra. This year I just want to do more of what makes me happy!

I’m trying to stay positive, but…ugh, this has been the winter from hell. I have been whining A LOT about the weather, but I can’t help myself. Spring seems so very far away. FAIL
